still drawing

A quick post, in case anyone still checks this after my months of silence. I have not abandoned my illustrations. I am still drawing away, just unable to get access to a computer. I do regret not writing sooner. Here is what has happened since my last drawing in September, if you care for an explanation: Life has just decided to have its way with me. I write to you now quite literally 1,400 miles away from where I started, after numerous hospitals stays, job changes, a broken relationship, a new name, and some time in a psych ward. I am very fortunate to be alive and even more so to have the friends I do.

Reading pact through some of my lowest points has helped me to keep it together. I am grateful for wildbow, and his skill at storytelling. Allowing me to forget my troubles for a short time.

I will leave it at this for now. I am at a place where I am no longer living out of my car, and can get my computer running. I hope to get artwork up as soon as I am able.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me with your encouragement. It has meant so much to me.

Sincerely,
Milo Rook

Welcome, stranger

Spoiler alert!

Snape kills Dumbledore.

This warning will make NO sense if you are viewing on a mobile device.  Sorry. I can't stop you from jumping off the ledge!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you like my doodles and illustrations.

Here's where I'm at:
I'm an amateur artist who draws for stress relief. For this blog, I will post as often as I can - but unfortunately this work comes third, after my two retail jobs. I am often sleep-deprived, but my art keeps me sane. My goal is to complete a big watercolor scene from every chapter before the story completely ends at some point in my life.

By donating, you can ensure artwork posted more frequently. Also feel free to throw drawing ideas at me, or characters you want to see fleshed out that I've missed. You can always contact me here in the comments, or at Rookneversleeps@gmail.com. I reply to everything.

Please enjoy the world that Wildbow has created, and feel free to get in touch with me.
I promise I don't bite.
(Unless its a full moon. Then its a little iffy.)

Preview piece: Faerie Realm

The Faerie at the table shifted position, their expressions placid and slightly interested.  She couldn’t help but feel as though they were silently mocking her for the spill.  Which they were.
....Everywhere she looked, everything she smelled or touched was art.  Everything she heard was music to distract the attention, or were exceedingly dangerous words that demanded it.  The simple scene of a patio with wine, crackers and cheese served in the center, a short ruined wall and numerous statues was a complicated piece of machinery, where every single thing around her was working against her or working for the ambassador.

This is a cut-away from a much larger piece, detailing Sandra's negotiations with these crazy people. It is wildly unfinished but I've been staring at it for months now and I want to get *something* out. So here you are. Two assassins, and an ambassador, and a... little nymph-like figure smirking (not mentioned in the story, but... I get carried away. Sorry.)

I just started a tumblr account, in an attempt to more readily express myself  as I'm going through some rough times, and since this piece wound up there, yep, there's 2 big fat watermarks.

Anyway.
Candle-light is fun to illustrate. Faerie are fun. Statues are fun.
SUPER FINELY DETAILED STONE AND TREES ARE NOT FUN.

I'm looking at you, Wildbow.

3.1 - Bite your tongue, Blake

“You don’t know how close I just came to a sarcastic response,” I said.
Dude, retorts are dangerous!

...Blake sketch. No real particular chapter assorted with this one, just... a straight up "I'm withholding this biting comment" doodle.
Crappy photo. Apologies. Drawn on the back of a letter.

If I'm honest:
I've been to hell and back in the last 30 days, and am happy to finally be at a place where I can be drawing and posting again. I'm getting a grip on medical problems, and getting the hang of therapy, all while still working and finding a new place to move. Things have yet to settle, but I'm struggling to get back to my art as often as I can. I have missed it so much.

More to come.

8.3 - Buttsack

Buttsack stood in the middle of the sidewalk.  He looked like a cross between the worst features of a small child and a very old man, simultaneously lumpy, misproportioned, hairy, wrinkly, gnarled beneath his too-loose skin.

...nasty little bugger. Quick sketch. I need to redo it. Needs more cowbell lumpiness.
Because of him, today I learned the word "FUPA".

The things I do for the love of Pact.
Sigh.

Wildbow's vacation

....OK LET ME EXPLAIN.

First. I like to imagine Wildbow with a freaking majestic beard and a beanie (because yes, I call them BEANIES, or a knit cap and not... a... toque. You silly Canadians. What the hell kind of word IS THAT.)

Secondly. Wildbow was been writing in the comments section of each new chapter to give us updates of his brother's wedding he's been helping with, and at one point he shared a story of a hellish week that involved suit shopping and his family's car trying to blow up. I suggested that it was the EYE causing them trouble and ever since, have had this scene in my head. And yes, being mature and giggling about the word "hoser".

Still so many pieces I'm working on.
And I'm doodling Buttsack at work now.

THANKS WILDBOW.
